Kiwi Trikers Social Club Incorporated was established in a West Auckland garage, as so many good things are, in August 1994 with 28 paid up members. The aim of that founding group was to have a family friendly club that promoted trikes and triking throughout New Zealand in a positive way.
To achieve this we have been, and are still, very active in assisting to raise money for school galas and other community fundraising events. In addition we also donate our time and vehicles for events run by, or to assist, charities such as Christian Fund for the Disabled and Children with Spina Bifida. Many of these people never forget the thrill of their first ride on a trike.
Today our membership hovers around 100 members and we have two official branches, one in Hawkes Bay and the other in Taranaki. We are a registered incorporated society and are managed by a democratically elected committee of dedicated volunteers.
As one of only ten members of the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association, we are involved with the development, together with the Land Transport Safety Authority, of Low Volume Vehicle code and the rules and regulations required for certification of all scratch-built and modified vehicles to be registered in New Zealand. The club has a Technical Advisory Group who will advise members and assist with technical issues of trike design, and help to clarify technical queries or transport regulation requirements.
We hold a general meeting each month at our clubrooms in West Auckland, have regular club runs to various destinations and host social get together evenings.
In addition we hold an annual weekend long get-away-from-it-all Rally with trike based events, such as show'n'shine, grass drags, hillclimb, wheelstand and freestyle competitions etc. plus live bands and liquid refreshments. This is one of the only events of its type where families are welcome and there are events to cater for all family members.
Our membership varies widely both in background and age. Our oldest trike-riding member is 75 and as we are a family club, the youngest is the latest one born. We welcome any enquiries.
